Dietary supplements: 4 truths you need to know
If you want to learn all about dietary supplements or introduce them to those who doubt their effectiveness, read and share the following.
Truth n 1: neither for slimming nor for tanning
Attention, we must distinguish 2 types of food supplements:
- Cosmetic” food supplements: The suppliers of these “food supplements” do not like to confuse things. These fake foods have a cosmetic purpose: to make you more beautiful, or more handsome … It is up to you to know if this is the case and if the ingestion of these products does not pose a risk to your health. What is good for your skin or your figure is not necessarily good for the rest of your body!
- Real” food supplements: those that improve your health. And yes! beauty comes second, and it’s not necessarily that of fashion prints. However, be vigilant, especially when taking medicinal treatments.
Thus, the food supplements that I will talk about below will not help you to get a tan or lose weight, but to optimize your health.
Truth no. 2: Indispensable against junk food 2: Indispensable against junk food
It has been imposed by force on farmers and then on the entire population more than 50 years ago. Who am I? …… Industrial agriculture, of course!
A parliamentary commission was created a little over two years ago to take stock of the situation. And here are the first observations:
- Supermarket “food” makes you sick.
- There is an increase in chronic diseases
- The numbers of cancer and type II diabetes are skyrocketing [1] …
Why?
The answer is simpler than it seems.
To increase their yields, the seed industry suggested that farmers plant cereals with very high yields.
Problem: these seeds “do not work” the following year and yields are very low. Therefore, we must buy other seeds from manufacturers, called “seed companies”, of which Bayer-Monsanto is the leader [2] …
When pulling up old plants or killing them to put in new ones, 2 things happen:
- First, we erode the soil.
- Then, we do not give the plants time to create strong and deep roots. In turn, the roots no longer transmit minerals from the soil to the fruits and then to those who eat them.
Result: for the same vitamin C intake, you need 100 apples today, for 1 apple 50 years ago [3].
In summary, supermarket foods are divided into 2 categories:
- Fruits and vegetables that have no minerals and few vitamins.
- Ultra-processed foods (soft drinks, ready meals, snacks, cookies, etc.) that contain only bad sugars, bad fats, salt and additives.
The ideal would be to plant your own food (if you have a garden, far from the city or factories, and enough time and energy), or to know neighbors or associations, able to provide you with really organic food.
Otherwise, organic from the supermarket is a good remedy, but not always sufficient, knowing that there is a tolerance of 0.9% for organic contaminated by neighboring transgenic plants.
This is why food supplements are essential: they provide vitamins and minerals to a generally urban population that does not have access to as varied a diet as it would like.
Truth no. 3 3: They can save lives
Food supplements will be of great help in many situations:
- In the context of post-accident rehabilitation, where the body draws heavily on its reserves, it will often need more vitamins and trace elements than it can get from its diet.
- Also during growth or if your immune system is
- During the winter, for example, vitamin D deficiency affects almost all people over 65 years of age in France and 80% of the general population. However, this deficiency increases the risk of mortality by 23%, as well as the risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease [4].
- Not to mention the diseases you may contract from eating an unbalanced diet for years to come. There are hundreds of diseases related to malnutrition. Today, in Western countries, malnutrition mainly affects citizens over 60 years of age. The British have estimated that it costs their healthcare system almost 20 billion pounds sterling, or 23 billion euros per year [5].
- And then there is the mechanics of aging: the body is less and less able to store or manufacture for itself the materials it lacks.
Which brings us to the fourth point …
Truth no. ° 4: They keep away illnesses … and old age.
With age, the body can no longer make up on its own the vital elements it lacks.
However, what if your knees recovered as well as they did when you were 20 years old? What if your bones were just as strong thanks to proper calcium absorption? If you no longer had trouble concentrating, with a good amount of zinc in your blood? …
You would be physically the same person you used to be!
So, obviously, old age affects us all, and this very early, from the thirties onwards. But it is our deficiencies, large and small, that worsen the passage of time in our bodies.
Well nourished, with a healthy and active life, you can slow down the passage of time, and like those inhabitants of the famous blue zones, live to be 100 years old as if you were 60 or 70.
If you follow the right treatments and train yourself physically and intellectually, you can improve your health right now, instead of watching it deteriorate.
But for that, you need to have a real nutrition program that strengthens the body in depth. And that’s what dietary supplements are for.
Personally, I can’t afford not to listen to my body!
